For those of us closely tracking the numbers, it\u2019s reassuring to see the central bank\u2019s preferred core inflation measures hovering close to the target of 2%. Inflation pressures are largely contained, and the energy-driven increases haven\u2019t spilled into other areas of the economy. Gasoline prices are still up in the low-20% range year-over-year, but have eased a bit since earlier in Q3. Food inflation has also cooled to about 3%, its lowest point since late 2024. Some market reactions may have been a bit overdone\u2014Canada\u2019s 2-year government bond yield did climb more than 40 basis points before this report, but major bank economists still expect the central bank to stay on hold through 2026. As someone who specializes in mortgage planning and works with a wide range of lenders, I\u2019m always monitoring these kinds of shifts.
